Two Police Officers are underneath criminal investigation after the death of former Aston Villa celebrity Dalian Atkinson who died after he was once shot with a Taser.

The Independent Police Complaints Fee (IPCC) said the West Mercia officers had also been served with gross misconduct notices.

Mr Atkinson died shortly after being shot following an altercation in Meadow Shut, Trench, in Telford on Monday.

A publish-mortem examination has proved inconclusive.

Cardiac arrest

IPCC Commissioner, Derrick Campbell, said the investigation would consider Mr Atkinson’s death and the “degree and kind of power used” in opposition to him.

The watchdog said a “criminal investigation does no longer mean that prison prices will essentially apply”.

Police stated the Taser was deployed at about 01:30 BST in Telford, Shropshire after officers have been known as to a report of challenge for a man’s security at Mr Atkinson’s father’s home.

A neighbour described seeing the 48-yr-outdated being Tasered after “stumbling towards” police.

Mr Atkinson went into cardiac arrest on his option to sanatorium, where he used to be reported useless at about 03:00.

‘Decided to get justice’

Mr Campbell said: “Two Cops will probably be interviewed under felony warning through IPCC investigators.

“We Will Be Able To maintain Mr Atkinson’s domestic up to date, and our ideas stay with all of those plagued by his dying.”

In a statement, Mr Atkinson’s family said they have been “still in shock” over his death.

It mentioned: “We’re Determined to get justice for him because of this getting to the truth.

“We are looking to the IPCC to hold out a radical and powerful investigation a good way to ultimately present transparency and accountability. Dalian’s reminiscence requires nothing less.”

A petition calling on the Prime Minister to urgently evaluation police use of Tasers has thus far gathered more than 50,000 signatures.
