For years, Prison Sea Foods restaurant chain has taken a tongue in cheek solution to promoting, poking fun on the political arena, politicians themselves, and their flip-flopping systems and positions. Just For the halibut.

5 years ago, the Boston-based restaurant chain started out working a sequence of ads that poked fun at animal rights activists, including: “Save the trout. Reserve It to swim every other day via golden brooks and sunlit streams. Or Just Put It Aside so one can grill that child up real nice.”

This year the commercials have been promoting the presidential “campaign” of the corporate’s CEO, Roger Berkowitz, whose slogan is a play off Bernie Sanders’ catchy phrase– “Really Feel the Berk.”

Among The Many marketing campaign’s posters: “If we build a wall on the border … Who will devour our scrumptious fish tacos?” … “I give a boost to the homosexual neighborhood. That’s why we serve rainbow trout.” … “My first act in workplace will probably be to legalize sea weed.”

Ahead of the Republican National Conference, Legal released a video that made a No Longer-too-refined reference to Donald Trump’s reportedly small palms: “I Will guarantee you,” the business mentioned, “it’s Not the scale of your arms that’s necessary, However somewhat the dimensions of your shrimp.”

But The campaign’s newest print advert, a full-pager that ran within the Boston Globe on Monday, has long gone down like a foul oyster among many on-line.

“We’ve Got a term for cold fish,” reads the advert, underneath a supersized picture of the Democratic Presidential Nominee. “Sushi.”

The backlash on Twitter used to be swift and divisive, with many accusing the chain—and its chief—of sexism:

Sure, Berkowitz says, he referred to as Hillary Clinton a cold fish. However The CEO doesn’t see why people are so upset.

“I’m slightly bit stunned via the vehemence of the entire knee jerk reactions to it,” Berkowitz informed FoxNews.com. “I Believe a couple of people acquired it into their heads that it’s misogynist or sexist. However we’re simply having enjoyable with the gender-neutral time period ‘cold fish’ which is applied equally to men and women.”

A “chilly fish” can be any individual—man or woman—“who shows no emotion and springs across as unfriendly or disinterested.”

Says Berkowitz, “In looking at Hillary, one of the most features she’s exhibited prior to now is that she’s Now Not the warmest of people. That’s why she picked Kaine! We’re No Longer the primary people to claim it and i doubt we’ll be the closing.”

But The Criminal chief, who describes himself as a “dyed in the wool” Impartial– says no offense was once supposed—to both candidate.

“There used to be absolutely no mal intent in this campaign. We merely wanted to parody what has turn into a heated election 12 months,” Berkowitz says. He thinks probably the most online vitriol is misplaced anger from fed-up democrats.

Although neither marketing campaign has reached out to Legal Sea Meals after the controversial commercials regarded, Berkowitz says he hasn’t viewed a drop in industry. Although the chain, and its lengthy-standing new york-primarily based ad agency Devito/Verdi, says they are going to think twice about continuing with the mock presidential campaign over the subsequent month, Criminal most probably won’t cease trying to spark just a little politically-charged fun.

“Our ads are at all times a bit bit provocative. Excellent commercials shouldn’t mix in, the will have to stand out,” he says.

Plus, says Berkowitz, #FeeltheBerk will have hit a nerve However “it does allow for some discourse on what is politically perfect nowadays and shows how people can take one thing and twist it totally out of context when issues get heated.”
