Didier Deschamps provides fresh injury update on N’Golo Kante

Deschamps admits Kante injury concern

France head coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that N’Golo Kante had sustained a groin problem which contributed towards his withdrawal from the matchday squad against Iceland.

The 28-year-old has suffered his fair share of injury concerns over the past few months and it appears that he has now picked up a groin injury in training with Les Bleus.

Speaking in a press conference, he told: “He felt a pain in the adductor [groin] muscle. He had a feeling where he did not feel comfortable to play. I made the decision [to pull him from the squad], because maybe it could get even worse.”

Deschamps has refused to confirm whether Kante will be fit for the forthcoming European qualifier against Turkey but there is a good chance that the midfielder may not be risked.

Chelsea have operated with Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho in the midfield when Kante has previously been on the sidelines and manager Frank Lampard may have to utilise the same combination, should Kante fail to recover in time for next weekend’s league game.
